Celebrating A Decade Of Thievery

It's official... December Thieves has hit double digits!

This decade has been nothing short of humbling- possible only through the love and support of the Boston community and beyond. As a small team with big dreams, we are proud to have come such a long way. From a tiny South End space to two neighboring storefronts on iconic Charles Street in Beacon Hill, and now a dynamic and expansive web business- we're proud to say that we've been on quiet the adventurous retail ride. Come along as we take a stroll down memory lane.

The year was 2013 and our Chief Thief, Lana Barakat, embarked on her passion project; crafting a brand that specialized in bringing small-batch, artisan, emerging designer brands from across the globe to the heart of Boston. Finally opening its doors during the fall, December Thieves made its official debut in a cozy retail space in the South End/SOWA neighborhood full of curious treasures and one small rack of apparel. Within the first few months it became clear that Boston wanted more, and with the encouragement of our community of loyal local Thieves, a second small storefront at 88 Charles St. in historic Beacon Hill was born.

The newly found space exuded old-world charm but awaited what was already our signature eclectic mark: curious displays of artisan home accents and faceted layering jewels, a small curation of apparel; a treasure box of traditional-meets-unexpected. In this space it became clear that there was a wider audience for our apparel vision and the rest is history. One rack became two, and it didn’t take long for us to realize we needed to evolve, propelling a move to our current fashion and footwear focused space at 51 Charles St and into our digital space with our first website. The extra square footage opened up the potential to further explore up-and-coming fashion brands, luxury accessories and niche fragrances from around the world. Ever since, find us edging up the streets of Boston one funky layer at a time.

While 2020 was unforgettable in many ways, we remember it in large part as the year we opened our second store at 53 Charles St, Thieves Next Door, designating it as our new haven for jewelry, home décor and those hard-to-find and even harder to give away gifts. Today the two shops sit side-by-side in the neighborhood we’ll call our forever home. Collectively filled with artful curations of independent designer fashion, jewelry, accessories, and home décor, it’s a two-stop shop for things you hadn’t even dreamt of and didn’t realize you need. Inside our curious abode, expect to find our team of Thieves, whose passion on and off the sales floor dusts everything you see with magic.

From creating captivating product displays to building out a website that perfectly captures the mood of our in-store experience, we are a small but mighty group full of gratitude for the opportunity to share our unique vision and with you. Thank you for riding along for ten incredible years.

Cheers to the next ten.
