Sterling silver is a great choice for low maintenance jewelry wearers. Pieces can be worn all the time and are safe to shower and swim with. Tarnish happens as a result of silver jewelry being exposed to oxygen and sulfur particles in the air. 

Oxidized Sterling Silver

Use a solution of water and a mild dish soap, gently rub the jewelry between your fingers and pat dry with soft, non abrasive cloth.

It's best to remove your oxidized silver jewelry when showering or washing your hands to prolong the dark color, only cleaning when necessary. Oxidized silver does wear off and will become brighter over time as a result of natural day-to-day wear and tear.

Bronze

Did you know high quality bronze can still turn some people's skin green? Bronze is an alloy that contains copper, which can oxidize when combined with moisture creating a patina. This is not a reflection of the quality of metal.

While bronze can get wet, avoid wearing your bronze jewelry in when swimming in chlorinated pools or salt water. 

Brass

Warm water is all you need to clean your cast brass jewelry pieces. Lay them flat on a towel after scrubbing and dry quickly to avoid water spots.

Brass jewelry should be removed while swimming, showering, or using any oils or harsh chemicals. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Brass can also oxidize when combined with moisture creating a patina and a greenish color on the skin.

Gold Plated

Use a damp microfiber cloth or piece of cotton after wearing to remove smudges and surface dirt.

You can wear gold plated jewelry everyday. Gold plating is sensitive to water, so avoid wearing your gold-plated jewelry when you're showering or even washing your hands.

Gold Vermeil

With a soft, dry, clean polishing cloth, rub the piece in one direction to wipe away dirt.

Store your gold vermeil jewelry preferably in its own jewelry pouch, not with other pieces of jewelry. You also want to keep your vermeil dry, removing it before working out, showering, or swimming.
